doing a single sub setup in a 78 datsun. these cars have no room and the owner refuses to build a false floor, or build a box around the strut towers. he simply wants a small sub for some low end reinforcement, however doesnt want a stupid looking pre-fab box rolling around in the hatch area.  i came across these 2 systems which up until now i thought would be useless.

What about a 6.5" powered bazooka tube or the infinity bass link system.  check out those two maybe that could give you some more ideas....

sweet...is it a 280Z or a 510?
what I would seriously suggest (depending on the money situation) is some Focal 5" subs (5KX) which will do exactly what he is looking for...wont give him the boom of larger subs, but will probably extend his low end quite a bit and sound great, as well as being very small and easy to install almost anywhere...the storage boxes behind the seats will easily accomodate two of these monsters each...
I am a Zcar guy (I own 3 right now) so if you need any ideas just ask...maybe you should see if he will let you do a fibreglass box in the spare tire well...you could get enough air for a 10 out of it or even a single 12...
let me know if I can help...

I like the idea of the 5 inch focal subs. and i know of the storage boxes that you are talking about behind the seats. however were the factory "doors" to the boxes cut out? or were baffles made out of mdf. ide like to see how that was done, other wise im kinda back to square 1 with having to build a box, a tiny one at that and then incorperate it into the car somehow. and find a place to mount the amp.  if the doors are replace with baffles made oiut of mdf, would the steel "box" sound right?   this had definitly peaked my intrest.   otherwise im thinking of getting more info on that kenwood powered sub/passive radiator system. ive heard good things about it ( besides lack of power....but thats not really an issue here) and it would eliminate having to deal with mounting an amp.
