This can be very confusing =). i've installed a cd/radio player last time into my car and it was stolen. so i don't have any manuals on that particular radio. anyway, i bought a new player(OEM version) and wired it up. however, there's one old orange wire( connected  to the old fuse box) which i can't  seem to fix on my new player. the speakers sounded ok.  that's the first problem.

the 2nd problem is, when i turn on my engine or the power to the player, it makes a blast sound from the speakers . on top of that, when the cd starts to be read or searching for a track, it has the reading sound from the speaker. can't readlly describe to you guys but it's like crackles. =)

guess that's about all of the wiring problems.  thanks =)

If you tell me what kind of car you have and what kind of cd player you are trying to install, I can give you a diagram of which wires do what.

it's a volvo  240 and clarion head unit. anyway. i've figured it out, the extra wire is just a constant wire. my player doesn't have an input for it.

the popping sound still persist whenever the player is turned on. sigh...

Sometimes popping sounds can come from bad grounds. make sure the paint is scratched away and that all the ground connections are good.
