i have a alpine radio i need to convert 12v to 5v  to bring in my navigation screen any ideas??

You need a 12 to 5 volt DC-to-DC converter.  These are available in many good electronics stores.  Lambda makes a very nice series.  Just be sure to get one that is rated at a higher power (watts) than your screen requires.  Powering a screen has nothing to do with your car stereo, by the way.

I take it your navigation screen did not come with its own power supply?  This is very odd.  What kind is it?  What sends it a signal, and are you sure it is not powered through this cable?
