What is the amp he is running? Not all amps put out what they say they do. It also depends on the voltage of the car. I am assuming the 800w is the peak value. If it is the peak, then it is 400 per channel and 200W RMS per sub. Might not be the best, but might not necessarily blow them. If it is 800 W RMS, then he should be blowing them any time soon. It really depends on the amp and how clean the signal is to the amp.

US Acoustics is actually not that bad of am amp. They are rated at what they put out. If it is something like Legacy or something like that, then it probably doesn't put out what it says. Legacy is known for putting out about 1/4 of what it says. There is no way to put a date or time on when they will blow. But it is not good. He is way over powering them. It is only a matter of time. Easiest solution is to buy a new amp. My suggestion is the JBL BP 300.1. He can wire them to 2 ohm and push 300 W RMS. Perfect match.

He won't blow them unless he's gain happy and it sounds like he is if he's letting them bottom out. If your going to overpower speakers you just have to be very cautious with your gain settings.
