Hey there!  I'm new to posting here, but I've been browsing the site for quite some time.  I've just run into a problem that I really can't seem to get around.

Bought a new sunfire a while ago, put in a JVC deck and CV sub and kenwood amp.  Ignoring the amp/sub, the deck dims all the lights in the car (even at normal listening) and the cd player shuts off, temporarily, when you turn it up (with bass on).  I've tried other decks in the car (pioneer & sony) and tried my deck in other cars.  My deck works fine, but with other decks in the car, the lights get really dim the same as mine does, however the decks do not shut off as mine does.  So I think i've narrowed it down to not being a problem with the deck.  My plans for tomorrow are to run new wire from battery to deck and new speaker wires.  Anyone have any input on this, or think that there is another problem?  I was at this today for about 5 hours and gave up when it got dark and really cold.

Problem Number 2.  My subs work intermittently when the volume hits about 30 out of 40 max.  It happens with my deck as well as the others I have tried.  With my deck, it happens before the deck shuts off (which leads me to believe its a totally different problem) and with other decks, it happens with volume up high but deck does not shut off.

I really hope somebody has some input into this as I've been at it for about 2 weeks, here and there.

Thank you in advance for any information you can give me.

Nick

well as far as your deck shutting off...you said other decks in your car do the same thing right?  well then it has to be your wiring.  check all 3 power wires and make sure you have real tight connections.  now the amp cuts out, that could be a number of problems.  question: when the sub stops working...is the amp still on or does it shut off?  if it shuts off then there could be a problem with your wiring to the amp or maybe its because of the deck shutting off.  if the amp still is on but the sub just doesnt work, then the amp could be turned up too high, or overheating causing it to go into protect.  what is the ohm load going to the amp? is the amp able to handle it? check all that and let me know what u get

its a cv sub and box.  the sub is 2ohm but they have a 2ohm transformer in series with it.  The amp is capable of 4ohm in bridged mode.  it does seem to cut off with other decks when the volume is high, even though the deck is not shutting off....but it may lack of power due to the wiring.

I have checked all the connections I can check.  Even pulled off my door panels tonight and reconnected my speakers to make sure everything was tight and not arcing or anything.  Will run new power wire tomorrow, if that does't work, will run new speaker wires.

oh yeah, meant to put this in the first post, i put my stock deck back in (delco cd player) and my lights still dim really low in the car.
