Charging a new capacitor

I had a friend give me a capacitor with no instuctions,what is the best way to charge one?

most companys give a resister with the cap to charge thru. you can use a test light to charge thru. I never charge a cap first. I just wire them up and hit the circuit breaker.

It should come with a little deal to charge it up with but I really dont know what to use otherwise because the thing that comes with it tells you when it is done charging but charging takes 2-4 minutes in most cases,

just go get a cheap high power resistor, you dont need it the whole time charging, it is just used because a cap will act as a short when it is first charged.
