I want an Eclipse 8102DVC. I am wondering if anyone could tell me what the dealer cost is on these to see if I can talk them down in price at all. Also, does anyone know if etronics.com is an authorized seller of Eclipse? I see that they have an actual store in NY so I was wondering if they are. I want to be able to get service and a warantee with this, it costs too much not to.

From the looks of things and knowing Eclipse policy of e-tailing I would sumise that the Eclpse products offered from this dealer are not infact covered by Eclipse warranty. Eclipse has a strict - very strict policy and dealer agreement that no Eclipse product will be sold on the net. If you noticed that a lot of the higher end product was not in stock or shipped in 2 - 4 days, this tells me that they have to go out and buy it from someone else in order to sell it to you. If you have a warranty claim, you must submit your purchase receipt and if the dealer or in this case e-tailer is not an authorized dealer then your warranty is null and void. I would contact Eclipse direct www.eclipse-web.com for contact information about this dealer, be assured I certainly will be. If this store has no install facility, which I imagine they do not, how the heck do you think they service their customers when an amp fails due to a wire being undone? Service and warranty go hand in hand and are usually found at an authorized dealer like your friendly local specialty store. As an authorized dealer of Eclipse I will not tell you what cost on equipment is (hope you understand - no offence intended) but I can tell you that at dealer cost it is much more expensive than most of the other equipment out there, so talk the dealer down on something most people assume is overpriced, most people are not aware that a higher end product also has a higher end cost. We all must compare apples to apples, ever seen a brand new BMW at the same price as a Chevy Cavalier? Good to see that you are a serious customer looking for good equipment and good information before you purchase, tells us that you want to do it right the first time.

Rob,

I didn't think they were authorized, but thanks for clearing it up. Being a dealer, how many of the eclipse subs have you had problems with? I would suspect not too many. You are in Canada right? Too bad. It would be nice to be able to buy from someone on 12volt just to know that I am getting good service too. I have been debating for a while whether I should get 2 good subs or 1 great. I finally decided it was worth the money to get the better one. I will have to dynamat (or something) though. Have you ever heard the JL Audio VR600CSi (I think) 6" component set? What do you think of them. You or anyone else that reads this. Thanks for all your help.

Aluminum subs baby ...yeahDealer Cost on Eclipse -- posted image. and just think, you can always add another. Canada eh! I am Canadian...land of snow, Bob and Doug McKenzie, Shania, good beer, clean air etc. JL Audio has always made really good gear, I have the line available to me if I want it but usually our customers use MB Quart or Eclipse for their components. I like the MB Quart, they have amazing off axis response compared to most other component speakers. This is important because unlike a display board where speakers are pointed right at you, in the car they are not and most speakers that sound great on a display board (on axis) sound like a$$ in a car (off axis). Go and listen to different speakers, your ears may tell you what you like and don't like, keep an open mind though, don't let the salesperson do the Jedi mind trick to you. Find out if you can listen to good components in a car - usually you can at a specialty shop - the big box guys generally won't do this for you. Anyways keep your stick on the ice and give to the AMHL (Alaskan Malamute Help League) and of course our sponsor the12volt.com.

Rob, you crack me up. Just so you know, it is snowing right now outside my window. So you guys aren't the only ones with snow. Shania is another story though....  The reason I was looking at JL was the size. I want more midbass and I plan to dynamat eventually but I am trying to put them in q-logic kick panels with a 6 1/8" opening. I figured it would be perfect. You are a sound master, so if you hav any suggestions I am definately open. Where I live there are only 2 brands, JL and RF. So I don't plan to buy around here, prices are outrageous. About that whole Jedi Mind Trick, that is why I was hoping to get some leverage on the dealer cost, but I totally understand. I know what I want and I am willing to pay for it, but why not bargain it down if you can?

Always nice to get a good deal, for both the customer and for us the dealer, we  must make a certain amount of money in order to keep the doors open / lights on etc. Sometimes you can get a good deal on equipment, most often from the guy who marks it up real HIGH and tells you if you buy it today he'll do it $100.00 cheaper (but don't tell anyone), fact is this person is probably selling it to you at what you can find it at somewhere else and is betting that you won't price shop him, so look around, ask different shops and get a good deal from someone who'll be there to help you the next time (so don't ask too much from him). JL Audio makes some good gear, if you like how it sounds, go for it, but I would do a road trip and listen to other speakers first, then make my decision. Your best bet is the specialty retailer, someone like me or a new improved version anyways.

Best way that i have seen to get a good deal from an authorized dealer is to buy alot from them. More you buy, the better they will take care of you, at least its how it worked with my dealer.
