I was wondering if it is possible to have too much airspace in a sub box? i know too little can hurt the sub, but can too much hurt it or make it sound bad also? thanks a lot for helping!

yes too much can hurt the sub just like too little can. they larger you make the enclosure the less power is needed to push the sub to its max. so to use a sub and amp compo at 1.5cuft and the same combo at 5.0cuft would most likely blow your sub.

To large of a box will change the "tunning" of the box.  A slightly larger box will provide a more "accurate" bass sound, more for jazz or classical music.  As you make the box larger the tunning note will go lower, but the quality will become sloppier.
