Hi,

I received an Rockford Fosgate 8" RFZ-3408 sub and enclosure for X-mas (early :)) and would like to get a decent amp for it.  All I want is good reliable sound - not a true audiophile yet.

I can get the Alpine 4-channel MRV-F340 amp for $225.  Is this amp good, considering that my system only consists of:

- two 4x6 Infiniti Reference 6402cfp speakers up front

- one 8" sub in a sealed enclosure in the hatch

- an older Alpine head unit with 2 sets of RCA outputs

The car is a 944 and I'm anxious to get it sounding good (when I'm not listening to the exhaust)...

Thanks for all your helpAlpine MRV-F340 + RFZ-3408 + 6402cfp= ? -- posted image.

It looks like a good little amp 35x4 ot 35x2 and 90x1. just enough to get you some decent sound. Not a 100% perfect match but with such a small sub and vehicle, it should sound and operate fine.

Top Secret, I can tell you but then my wife will kill me.

Actually, I think these are the specs.  I hope I'm not buying the wrong amp!

  • RMS Power Output (Watts x Channels) 55 x 4
  • Frequency Response 20-20k Hz
  • THD at Rated RMS Power 0.08%
  • Signal to Noise Ratio 100 dB
  • Input Voltage 14.4v
  • Peak Power Output (Watts x Channels) 250 x 2
  • Power at 2 Ohms (Watts x Channels) 65 x 4
  • Bridged Power (Watts x Channels) 130 x 2
  • I plan to run two of the amp's channels for the front speakers and bridging the rear two channels for the sub.  Sound ok to you guys?

Right choice on how to wire the amp to the speakers. Throw all the specs above out the window, you need to see a rms power rating @ 12 volts measured into 4 ohms, this is where I came up with the ratings for you, a closer look at the Alpine amp's owners manual should verify this. Still is an OK match

    OK, you piqued my interest...

What would be a ideal/perfect matching amp, without blowing my savings?  My car has a bit of road noise, so $400+ amps won't be necessary.

    Thanks for the help!
