Here's a quote about the sub from Dan Wiggins, the CEO of Adire Audio: "Speaker is operational, we had the sub amp hooked up to the big sub on the other end of the room, so we used a 9V battery to swing the driver back and forth. Only moved ~2.5" one way with the 9V, so it wasn't full excursion. But hey, ever seen a driver move 2.5" one way with a 9V battery? Better question, ever seen a driver move 2.5" one way? " (BTW that's over 62mm one way excursion with a 9 volt battery)

Actually that isn't cardboard.  It is a very stiff, but very light sandwich material.  Someone described it on one of the forums, but I can't find it now.  It weighs in at 800 grams, which is a lot, but pretty impressive for the size of it.  As one person said, it weighs less than Kickers Solo X cone.  Of course it would have to be VERY rigid to be able to move so far so fast.  After all it's Fs is 7 Hz, and it can do reference output levels as is (no enclosure) at 20 Hz.

What's really neat is that two of the biggest names in the SQ competition are going to be running these things soon.
