A friend of mine is in the process of buying a dry cell battery for his car....he was told that this would help his orginal battery and alternator....

He plans to run 2 12 fusion power plants along with 2 punch hx2....if I am correct the fusions are on about a 1000 watt fusion amp possible 1200....and the rockfords are running on a rockford 800 somethings which I believe is about 600 or 800 by 2 (dont quote me on the power supply all I know is that its alot of power )

His ride is a newer ford tarus (?sp?) 99-00 or so...he had to about a month ago, go and purchase a new alternator (factory).....I told him then to think about a bigger alt., cause even then he wanted to buy 2 other twelves not the rockford hx2s.....

also I am not aware of the factory alt. output........but I feel that with this new setup that he will be running....it will exceed the 120% of the output...which will cause damage to the alt and bat. correct...?

I told him that I am not sure on how to install a second battery, I have never done this...but I did not think that he can run wires like he plans to..(going to run wires from the orginal battery to the new dry cell (which is only a 60.00 dollar battery " I thought that was a little cheap not sure what brand")

Do you guys feel that he needs to first upgrade is alt. or will just the new Dry Cell, really help without a larger alt. ?

I thought that it would still be taking more power to run these two batterys....I am not for sure thats why I wanted to ask you guys.....

And thats not the correct way to install a second battery or is it....(would you not need a battery isolator??????)

hes doing this on friday......so any help would be great...cause I am not sure if I am correct....I feel some what like I am just not hitting (the nail with the hammer) if you know what I mean.....

Thanks Doug

No a second battery will not help you much, unless you want to listen to your music longer with the car off. He will definitely need a high output alternator if he plans on running a big amp like this. The only thing a second battery will do for you without a high output alternator is create another load for your alternator to charge. If he trys to run that big of an amp on just a regular factory alternator he is going to get a severe drop in performance.

putting a high output altenator on a civic is retty strait forward. You can get bolt ons that are like 150 amp and the wiring is really simple.
