Hi all,

I've just brought a set of infinity references for my car, 2 up the front and 2 on the rear doors. I've so far fitted the front pair into the doors running off the pioneer head unit's amp. The rear pair dont quite fit the OEM mounts, so rather than replacing the rear OEM speakers, could I run the new Infinity pair on the rear shelf off the same cables as the rear door ones at the same time (in parallel?) and just increase the head unit's power to the rear amp a bit more??? or am I being completely daft??!!

Thank you for reading!!!!!

Adding a second set of speakers in parallel with the existing ones is a bad idea.  This is likely to overload the amplifiers in your head unit by lowering the impedence load to too low a level.

You should just run the new infinity set on the rear deck and disconnect the rear OEM door speakers. The OEM rear speakers will just make your system sound worse. You might want to consider buying a good external amp for those speakers. They would sound much better.

Woah. Thank you for your quick responses! I don't have an external amp yet! Okay, I will disable the rear door OEM speakers. But shall I place my new Infinity speakers on the rear deck or replace the rear OEM door speakers directly?? which would sound better? I'm considering getting an amp, but I am also looking at this package, is it any good?!:

and perhaps one of these:

Thank you for your help again! Much appreciated!

That first package would sound really nice. I sell the ifinity subs and they hit quite well for the price and sound quite clean. I would go for that. You didnt say what kind of car you had but in  most cars the rear doors would be blocked by the front seats so I would cut into the back shelf and put your speakers up there.

The rear door locations will give your rear passengers better imaging if they arn't blocked by the seats. If they are then just go ahead and put the speakers on the rear shelf. That package looks good. The old infinity amps are good iv'e heard.

Fantastic advice! thank you all your help! I'll keep you posted. I'm driving a 1998 (BA) Mazda 323F UK model, the car was never sold in the US! take a look at our club: www.maz323f.co.uk The imaging for the rear passengers won't matter so much as I hardly ever carry people back there!

Thanks again.
