I have a 2002 acura rsx.  I have a 2400 watt amp and a 2.2 farad capacitor pushing 2 12inch kicker l7.  I am reading about a 2 volt drop on the capacitor when the bass hits good.  Also, my rpm's drop a few hundred when my car is in idle and the bass hits good.  Do i need a new high powered alternator?  Do i need a new high powered battery?  If so, what is a good one to get and how much will it cost.

Definitly a new alt.  I would recommend a Stinger 200amp alt (just to be safe) but a 150amps should be enough.  If you add another battery, the OEM alt won't be able to charge both because it's not powerful enough.

Definitly increase your power supply.  You need more reserve capacity.  Bigger alt will help, but as you mentioned your motor looses rpm under the bass load.  This is caused by the alt being under heavy load and the motor not having enough horespower to maintain rpm.   Beef up the batteries.

the rpm drop is due to the load the alternator is placing on the engine when the current draw is too great...

No, he needs a high-output alternator, not batteries.  Batteries and caps will not help in this situation.  It has absolutley nothing to do with engine horsepower.

You want to get a HO alt., all extra bats and caps do is place a larger work load on your alt.

If we learn from each success and
each failure, then we can improve ourselves
