Just to let you know the Metra's dash kit for the 04' ford Taurus won't work. It has something to do with the rear defost switch will just sit there and flash. It can also cause damage to the R.A.P.S. Module and the dealer will hold you liable for it. Metra is working on a new kit to fix it so I wouldn't touch one until then.

May I ask where you heard this from? I have never heard this. Have you regrounded the defrost switch like it says in the installation manual? The only problem I know for the 04' s is the airbag light that Ford has added to that year and even that is not a problem as there is an easy way around that too. Metra is not working on  a kit for this car as it is not needed and this may be the last year for this model. Please let me know who you heard this from so I can correct the bad rumor.

That's what I thought, but I was waiting for the voice of the factory to speak!  I did an install in an '04 Taurus around Christmas time using the appropriate Metra harness and instructions and had no problems whatsoever...

I'm sorry it's not the Raps it's the SRS that may have a problem and the dealer will hold us liable. I got this info from my work if they are wrong about it let me know so i can tell them. Thanks for your input

you have to install a resistor on the SRS wires behind the dash kit, i belive 10K Ohm's i could find out for sure on tues when i go back to work, that will stop the SRS from being tripped.

This is what I got form up top:

2004 Ford Taurus Warning
With the release of the new 2004 Ford Taurus an installation issue has arisen. The new dash on these vehicles use the same Metra kit 99-5716, except for one major item, the passenger air bag indicator. Replacing the radio will cause the air bag light on the dash to flash constantly, and disable the SRS system in the car. If Circuit City replaces the radio we can be held liable for any issues involved with the SRS system. Metra is aware of the change and is currently researching a solution to this issue. No ETA is available to when they will have a solution, so if you have a customer, who wants the radio replaced then explain to them the situation, take their name and number, and contact them when a solution is available.
UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE CIRCUIT CITY ROADSHOP OPERATIONS IS GIVING NOTIFICATION NOT TO INSTALL A RADIO INTO THE 2004 FORD TAURUS.

2004 Ford Taurus factory head units have the air bag "off" indicator located in the factory radio panel, Scosche recommends installing a 10k ohm resistor inline between two wires located in the radio wiring harness at the dash. The correct colors to use are tan/lt.blue and dk blue/org. The original tip stated violet/org. There is no violet/org wire found anywhere behing the dash. I used tan/lt.blue-dk blue/org, and this gave the desired
