Ok guys,
I need a little help with this install, I think I need a split charging system with a second battery due to the ammount of gear wired up! however I am seeking guidance from fellow installers!
Overveiw of the system is
2 x 12" 400RMS subs
1 x Single channel 1000RMS D Class AMP
2 X 5-1/4 Component sets
1 x 4 Channel 400RMs amp
2 x 1.5 Farad powercaps with bridge link.
Also 10 7" LCD screens!
Now I know the standard car battery is clearly not going to be enough, I have never installed a split charging system I found a really good kit at
http://www.autoleads.co.uk/power_split.html
And since it is a show car I am getting these guys to sponsor us, provide any dist blocks etc
I am trying to figure out how best to set this up, i.e wiring up the powercaps, dist blocks? battery and amps?
All help very appreciated
Cheers

Start with a 200 amp alternator.  If you intend to run this with the car off (depending on what you mean by "show car") then yes, install a battery isolater and I'd use dual deep cycle marine batteries on the secondary side.

DYohn,

Many thanks for your reply, yes the car is being built as a show car, it will be officially launched in July at Europe’s largest indoor car show MAX POWER 2004.

We have over $100K sponsorship for the car, it is to be the most modified e36 convertible in the world.

Meguirs are taking the car over across to you guys to all the U.S shows next year, and running a ful 12 month ad campaign using the car.

Its huge project, unfortunately due to various other aspects of the project, I don’t have much time to work around the ice setup etc.

May I ask, how would you wire up the dual powercaps inline with the batteries and amps?

Thanks again

Irfan

firstly u have to work out how much ampere is your alternator is producing, I would guess e36 convertible is having a at least 120a alternator (or 180a), then select an appropriate solenoid or smart relay (the link u provided, basically it's the same as mine but different brand) that capable to handle the amp that your alternator produces. while your are installing those stuff for car show there are some better looking solenoid at lightning audio or rockford u could found.

as the e36 (except early model) that the batt is located at the boot, this would simplify your installation, I would suggest to get a accuvolt FR1500W instead of getting the power cap (where the batt is close enough to the batt), and accuvolt can keep at preset constant voltage and can supply up to 100a of current, even it purifies the power to your entire audio system.

hope these help

cheers

Throw out the caps, get the high output alternator, a multi battery isolator and deep cycle marine batteries, not to sound like I'm just repeating what Dyohn says, we just seem to agree on a lot of things.
Top Secret, I can tell you but then my wife will kill me.

Guys,

I really appreciate all the advice you have offered so far! You all mention I should get rid of the power caps. I need to keep them in for show! Fusion Car Audio have sponsored all of the Audio hence I need to use everything we have been given.

If I was to exclude the powercaps, would I be right in assuming that I would power each amp from each battery or run both amps of the second battery?

In say the above I am sure you can suggest a solution which can include the powercaps? else fusion wont be very happy with me!

Would I need to use a distribution block from the powercap to the amps? else fusion wont be very happy with me!

Many thanks

y not "wire" the caps up make it look all fancy but in reality have the wires going to the middle of nowhere... ive read wut forbidden and dyohn have said alot and i dont think they mean remove the caps just that they hate caps b/c ppl think that caps can solve all of there electrical probs and it wont... so wire them if u must it cant hurt the system just give it a power boost during real high draw.... do you actually plan on playing it at a show?

Flatulatta,

Thanks for the input, I see what you mean. I am not a keen fan of powercaps myself they are purely for show use! I havnt spent any time trying to plan out the wiring of the system due to working around the clock on various other aspects of the car.

It will be playing at shows for short periods of time.

Thanks
