I was going to purchase two MTX thunder 8000 10 inch subwoofers. I was wondering if there is a difference between the single voice coil and the dual voice coil besides the fact that the dual voice coil gives you more options in wiring. Does the dual voice coil subs sound better or hit harder. I looked at the specs and they have the same rms power. Does anyone know it these subs are worth purchasing ? Can they compare to JL or Apline or Kicker. Those are just some of my favorite brands. Thanks.....

A dual voice coil version of the same sub should sound exactly the same. MTX subs are comparable to the JL W3v2 or Alpine Type R.

Make your decision based on the impedence load you want to achieve. That's the reason for the DVC option. For example, two SVC 4 ohms parallel-wired would amount to 2 ohms.

The DVCs, if dual 4 ohm, would series/parallel to a 4 ohm load. The decision would be based on the quality and load rating of the amp. I would probably choose the DVCs for the 4 ohm bridged load, even if the amp was 1 ohm stable. Some others might want to push it to the max and go with the 2 ohm load that you would get from the SVCs.

So, it depends on your amp, and the loudness you want.
