amp shutoff protection mode

i wired a pioneer 4ch amp in a tacoma yesterday. i had to use the stock hu so i used two hi/lo converters, and used the existing speaker wire. i ran new wire from the hu area to the amp to connect the speakers. when i was installing infintys in the front doors, i noticed the factory wires were the same color. the rears were different and made sense. the amp kept cutting out but not shutting off. i thought it was a battery problem (not enough amps) but it wasnt. i was then thinking that the front speaker wires must but connected in some way, cutting out the amp. i think i must run new wires to the front speaks. please let me know if i know what im talking about.owner of

I agree with you.  Run the new wires directly to the speakers and unplug the originals.  First, though, eliminate any potential problems upstream by testing speakers at the amp location.  Use the ones you are installing if they aren't mounted yet.  If they are, use some different test speakers to see if the amp behaves properly.

If it was a common ground radio, the LOC's wouldn't work unless you hooked up the black wires to the car chassis.  I believe the Tacoma would have the normal floating ground.  Common ground uses the car chassis for ground instead of wiring (for the speakers).

Did this Tacoma happen to have a hidden stock amplifier? Top Secret, I can tell you but then my wife will kill me.

the wiring is wierd. it doesnt have a floating ground. the front speak wires at the harness are four separate colors,and i looked them up on "vehicle info". but at the speakers, they are the same color. the rears are different and work fine. i put the fader on rear and the amp doesnt turn off, so i know know that it is a speaker wire problem. im just wondering why/where the wires are the same at the speaks. the tacoma doesnt have a fact. amp. im just going to run new front wires and call it a day, thanks owner of
