First post, first stereo.

I did a brief search but came up empty.  I am in the process of installing my first stereo, it is going into my boat.  I would like to hook everything up before I start running wires and drilling holes in the boat, but I'm not sure what is the best power source to use.  the battery out of the boat? a battery charger? Any help is much appreciated.

Equipment testing:

Alpine CDA-7845

Coustic XM-3 crossover

Sony XM-3040F 4 channel amp

Pioneer GM-X252 2 channel amp

Alpine SPS-170A, SPR-174A, Kenwood KFC-1077, JBL GT650T ported sub.

which selection should I use?

trickle charge

regular charge

start,  I would think that this would supply too many amps

i would use the start setting, or the regular charge, depending what equipment you'll be testing at the time.

Just because your charger will supply that many amps doesnt mean the deck will use them. If you test the deck on the start setting it will take what it need from the charger and the rest will simply be wasted and will not harm anything. Just watch how long you have it on for since some chargers will heat up real quick on the start setting

I guess I should say too many amps for my wires, the last time I hooked up a battery to a HU, I fired my jumper wires.  What guage should I use for my jumper wires?

I bought this power supply (http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?&DID=7&Partnumber=120-538) not too long ago. Works great. I was safely able to test functionality of one radio, 2 amps, and eq all at the same time.
