I am putting a system together for my 1966 Caprice. I have purchased everything except the sub & enclosure and I wanted some recommendations to work with my space and power limitations. Here is what my system consists of:

Custom Autosound-Kenwood AM/FM/Cassette (fits in stock dash) with 10 disc Kenwood changer. Front speakers are MB Quart Reference 5.25" components which I am mounting in custom fiberglass kick panels (thanks fiberglass forum!). Rear deck speakers are 6.5" MB Quart Reference components. The amp is a 5-channel Hi-Fonics ZX8000 (50Wx4 + 200x1). I need a sub which will fit in the trunk space between my spare tire, trunk wall and rear seat. I have about 12"H x 13" W x 13" D to work with and 200W into 4 ohms for sub power.

In talking with 2 stereo shops, one recommended an 10" Alpine Type E and the other recommended a JL10W3v2. Any opinions of these choices, other recommendations or suggestions would be helpful.

those 2 subs are your best choices, they don't need much power, and put out lots with that little power.

I'd definately do the Alpine E, it requires little space(.6-1.25 cuft.sealed/ 1.0-1.75 ported), and is perfect for the power you have available(200W rms, 600 W peak). They sound pretty damn good for the $ too.

I would recommend the Lighning Audio Strike S3.10.4 . It is relatively inexpensive, works primarily in a small sealed enclosure of your size, handles the amount of power that you have and most importantly, it sounds nice. Definition and multi tone bass response. It can lay waste if it must, but it is a very good all around good performer for pretty much any type of music.

Go with the JL, they run low watts and hit hard for the amount of watts they do use. The alpine is good, but if you go with alpine, go ahead and upgrade to the type R's and do it right.

Type Rs are def. better but do mean 300W rms, Caprice has 200W to work w. I tried to run a R12 off an amp putting out 150-200W and it barely budged the sub.
