Ok, I have a Jensen XA275 amp hooked upto an Infinity 12w30. The problem is that when i set the gain more than half the amp starts cutting off and protect light on amp comes on aswell. I am not sure what the problem is. Any help will be appreciated.

BTW: Amp is bridged and gives out 200 watts RMS.

It sounds like your amp is clipping badly. The gain knob is not a volume control, its a level matcher. Try doing a search for setting gains on this site.

First of all, that amp is only rated at 50 watts per channel into 4 ohms and 75 into 2 ohms.  It can be bridged into a 4-ohm load so it should be fine with a 1230w Reference series woofer (assuming you are only running one.)  Why do you think the amplifier's input gain NEEDS to be that high?  You are over-driving the amplifier, probably because you want more out of the system than it is capable of producing.

good decision, Jensen amps aren't really that great, and I think kform what you were saying, that like DYohn said, you are trying to get more than that amp is capable of, so a bigger amp will do you good for that.
