no reason in the world it wouldnt work if you are tapping signal right off the speakers in the trunk.... which is obviously after the amp

Well, if they are "moving the sub" at ALL, then they are indeed getting a signal.  Sounds like you have not set up the voltage gains properly, both on your LOC and on your amp.

Make sure you're tapping the woofer outputs and not the tweeter outputs, if you're doing it at the speakers. If that doesn't work you could try taking the wires from the radio to the amp.

what type car? i tapped in to the speak wires on a new jetta just behind the rear pass door under the molding by the seat belt. there is a cluster of speaker wires. you have to take off the rear door panels to see which wires are the right color. splice your loc near there. this worked well for me.

if those wires are going the the rears, yes. find out which colors go where by actually looking at the speakers. wire them accordingly by left pos and neg and then the right.
no, use an loc. if u have "info"in those wires, then an loc will work. whether or not your loc is working , i dont know

i've always found it good to start an install with a few "known goods".... like good wiring info on what wires you are tapping into, an amp that you know works, etc., etc.        this will eliminate the whole " Frial & Error " approach you seem to have taken
