You answered your own question dude, add Nakamichi and Denon into that mix as well.

I'd bump alpine down to the same class as your pioneer. But ya Denon, Nakcamichi, Eclipse and Macintosh are the high brands I know of.

100% agreed with the above comments, and if you really want to go high-end, there are superb systems from Linn and Harmon-Kardon, and even a car audio system from B&O.  How much are you interested in spending and how "high-end" do you plan to go?

$350 to 450 is definately middle-of-the-road price range.  Try an Alpine CDA-9831 or 9833, or maybe you could get into an Eclipse CD3424 or 3434, or maybe a Nakamichi CD-400.  Stay with Alpine if you want MP3 capability.  By the way, therre is no such thing as "high end audio" and MP3, since MP3 is in general a low-fi technology.

Speaking of Nakamichi....$341.00 including shipping.

ya, mp3 is the worst signal possible as an "upgrade" option, i seriously think it should only be on cheap decks for people who don't care about quality, there is no place for it on quality units.
