I recently installed an Alpine unit in my Tahoe.  Using all original stock speakers.  When the volume is low everything sounds fine but when you turn the volume up, ( not even half way) the speakers sound all scratchy and distorted. I'm sure the + and - are connected right. Any one know any other reason for this?

You are overpowering the speakers.  They cannot handle the power from the new head unit.  You will either have to replace them or not turn it up.

Also, be sure the bass boost is off and all the bass / eq settings are neutral.
