I am looking to upgrade my 2 12"s and I was looking at the Eclipse sw9122. I have had experience with the aluminium seriers, but not this particular series. Are they as good as they are cracked up to be in SQ and SPL? I have heard many excellent reviews saying they are the best subs on the market. Is this hype or fact?

No, they are better than they are cracked up to be.

Would you recommend ported or sealed for that particular sub? I am upgrading from the pro piston compression subs by audiobahn....i take it i would see dramatic improvments? Also, with my audiobahn subs, i dont know if its the subs or my '99 cavalier, but the SPL inside the car is really good, however there is no out-of-car noise. Is there anything that can be done to enhance that?

I have a ported box that the audiobahns used to be in that was about 3.1 cu feet to each. Would this box work fine with the eclipse subs?

Thanks in advance for all the advice

If you want more outside noise, open your windows.   Other than that, you have a blessed car, everyone wants a silent car outside...except you...eclipse sw9122 -- posted image.

Wow, you will hear a difference like night and day.  Those "piston compression" drivers are really crappy SQ, although they do get loud.  Eclipse drivers have high SQ.  It'll be like "Wow, I never knew there was actually MUSIC in that bass."  As far as "enhancing" the noise outside your car, what are you talking about?  You want to attract the noise police?  Or are you trying to impress the chickies as you drive by?  Hell, man, stop and talk to them!  Invite them INTO your car!  You have the perfect setup going... Or I guess you could drive around with all your windows down and yout trunk lid open...

You will love the eclipse sub. Im running 1 15 in my car and its amazing. I would suggest about a 1 cuft box for it. Thats about what mine is in. Make sure to run it at 500 watts RMS
dream it, build it, fiberglass it
