Picked up a factory CD player for my daughter's 94 SL2. As-is of course. Saturn CD problems -- posted image. Anyway, When I insert a CD(store-bought) the CD spins up and after about 10 seconds returns an error. It then ejects the CD.
I've seen some listings for repair of the CD player on these units (~179.00), so it makes me think there are known problems with this. Can anyone eplain?
Also, would taking the unit apart and cleaning things up make any difference with this kind of error?
TIA
Mike

could be a number of different problems in the unit itself ( pickup, spindle motor, D/A converter, etc., etc ) all of which require replacing the CD mechanism as that is the smallest GM breaks the unit down.... we are an AC Delco factory service centre and MY cost on the mech is more than $179 (even with the core return on the old mech) so you really have to question whether it's going to be worth looking at.....

buy yourself a Metra kit and harness and replace with a good quality aftermarket unit......
