Will I come across any problems by building two ported subwoofer enclosures and having them face eachother directly (with about 1 foot of airspace between them both)?
What about at a slight angle?

I'm guessing no.  Remember to observe polarity.  Wiring one sub out of phase could cause some cancelation to occur.  Other than that, I'd probably be inclined to angle them for no other reason than I've had better sound when I've angled subwoofers.  I'm curious what others have to say about this, I always wonder about cancelation possibilities when I see installations with woofers facing each other.

having them face eachother can make them cancell or could make for a higher spl (depends on the actual placemet) you won't get great sound at that distance put a couple feet in and it will work better
