I bought an Alpine cda-9835 online and i have been to numerous sites that say that due to the high current draw of this unit, a 10 guage fused wire must be soldered to the 16 gauge 12v constant power wire of the unit and ran directly to the battery.  Alpine Guy, i know you have one of these and I was wondering if you follwed these instructions and if not, what did you do, and what would you do in my position.  (I am just running speakers with this as of now, no other amps are involved)

i put one of these in a customers car the other day, when i had it hooked up to the stock power wire (16 guage) it wasnt enough power because the h/u would cut out when you turn the volum above 20 or so on the dial, so i ran 10 guage and now it works fine, the guy was also just running speakers with no amps

thanks a lot RS, i was wondering if you soldered it too, because i dont have a soldering iron and i wanted to know if it was even ok to twist and tape the two different gauges together, doesnt sound like a good idea but was just wondering.

always solder, you dont want that conection coming loose do you? irons are pretty cheap, i have some fancy butane powered torch that i got from lowes for 30 bucks you can get a plug in one from radioshack or walmart for around 10 it just takes a while to heat up

Yeah you definately need to run bigger wire if your useing it to power speakers, ,i usually tap into the constant 12v wire in the ignition harness then fuse it 2" after the connecton in the ignition harness, , then run it to the deck wire and pass it through the fuse and noise filter on the yellow wire.   Be shure you do not hook up the factory constant wire as you may overload it with power.

12 gauge is thick enough wire for the short 3 foot run.  10 gauge is good if your going from the battery.

I recently received in the mail my new Alpine cda-9835.  The harness on the back contains the regular 8 speaker wires but  also some other wires i was concerned about.  There is a solid blue wire that says P. Ant, a solid orange that says "ILLM", a pink with a black line wire that says "IN INT", and then a solid red one that says nothing on it.  I really dont know what these wires do and i was wondering if someone could explain them to me, as of now i dont plan on running anything off of this deck other than just speakers so tell me if these wires are irrelevant.  Also attached to the unit there is a little box deal that says DC/DC converter.  It said in the manual to mount it away from all the other wires and as distant as possible to the receiver, how should i mount it and what  is it?  All your feedback in this manner would be greatly appreciated.

That post kinda had me a lil scared, are you shure your ready to tackle this install?  most people get an experienced friend or shop to show them how to do it "right"

First off, i hope your useing an adaptor harness made for your vehicle from metra or scosche so you don't hack up your car, , then you just match the wire colours up.

The red wire is your ignition wire, , it is needed to give the deck power when you turn your key on.

With that deck you will need to run your own power wire to the Yellow wire on the deck, you can tap into your constant 12v wire in your ignition harness with 12-10 awg wire and run it to the yellow wire on the deck.   And in addition to the power wire, , you will want to run a new ground wire to your fire wall useing the same gauge wire you used for the power wire.

The dc/dc converter is a little box to help boost the rca signals, and the filter is to filter out noise, ,there needed, , its not really necessary to keep it far away from other wires unless you get noise, which i doubt you will.

lastly, you must solder and electrical tape your connections, , especially your power wire, , if you do not know how to solder, , get a friend who knows how, , or support your local economy and get a skilled car stereo shop the do the install for you,  , they usually back there work with a warranty too.

also the "P Ant" is the wire that activates your power antenna, , if you don't have one you don't need to hook it up then, and the  "illm" wire is also not needed to get hooked up, , it just dims the deck when you turn your lights on at night.

I agree with Alpine Guy, the questions yu are asking makes me immediately respond "go to your local car stereo shop and get help.  Pay for the install to be done correctly or you may blow up your new head unit or your car or both."  It also makes me wonder if you even read the installation manual that comes with the unit?

I have an Alpine CDA-9835 and i purchased an amp integration kit metra part # 70-8112.  I hooked everything up and powered it on and everything was on and working fine but there was no sound coming from the speakers.  Im beginning to think the guy sold me the wrong harness or my head unit doesnt have preouts for the speakers or somethin i dont know.  The preouts on the back are labeled F on the top and R un the bottom.  They are white on the left side and red on the right side.  The RCA's on the harness however are white, grey, teel, and violet.  I think that each RCA is for each speaker because they have a + and - wire running to each of them.  Was i sold the wrong harness?
