I don't know what size sub to get. I only have 80w rms available to drive it. I have a pick up truck so size of the box is a consideration also. Is there much difference in sound between the two sizes?

yeah, they sound different but it really depends on ur setup. With only 80watts I'd still say get a 10', I'd suggest either a rockford, JL, or comparable brand sub in a properly sized sealed box. It will not break any dB records but it should give you a nice clean bass response. Be sure to cross it over at around 50hz!

personally I would be more inclined to crossover at about 70-80hz depending on the size of the other speakers in the vehicle and given the small size of the driver you will be using.

humm, true, but I guess it really depends on what kind of bass he's lookin to acheive.... so I change what I said before "Cross it over untill u get the sound u want" 8 or 10 inch sub -- posted image.

What about size? Will an 8 inch sub give me some decent bass?

yeah. One of my first setups was 4 8's in a lined box. I was hittin 147 dB's with them so I know 8's will hit.

Take a look at the ID8v.3. Very good SQ, low power requirements, small sealed enclosure. Will give good solid bass, but it's not going to pound. I would hesitate to go with a 10 that requires more power, you wouldn't get near the potential with only 80W. You can only do so much with only 80W on tap.

i've had some good experiences with 75w rms

i had 2 alpine type s 10's each getting 75rms and it was disgustingly loud

shook the roof of my civic hard!! surprised me and evryone i know!!

just pick a good sub  i'd go JL or possibly even alpine  80w would probably sound great in a truck!!  but go for a 10!!
