Do I need a special blade to cut MDF? I want to build a little shelf for my sub to sit on in my pick-up truck and will be using a circular saw with a regular wood blade. Will it cut ok?

40 tooth will cut cleaner than 24 tooth.
Build the box so that it performs well in the worst case scenario and, in return, it will reward you at all times.

You need a diamond carbide 1024 tooth blade.
JK, what you have will work fine.

A circular saw cuts "up" whereas a table saw or radial arm saw cuts "down". Any chipping of the wood is going to occur on the top side of the board when the saw blade teeth exit the wood. To get a smooth cut without chipping, put some masking tape on the top surface of the piece being cut. If you have a "good" side of the board then place it good-side down. The opposite will be true for a table saw or radial arm saw.
