Has anyone here ever done this? I have read in the past about installers changing the colors of LCD's to match factory, motifs, etc.

Subtlety is EVERYTHING.

i did this a while ago in a BMW i had... i had an Alpine head unit in the car which lit up lime green and i changed the lamp caps, LED's and LCD display by adding a gel used by production lighting companies ( spotlight gels)

it was a bit of work, but when i was done it looked great, you couldnt tell at night that it wasnt a factory BMW radio.....
