I am hoping to use the Alfatronix 24-12V DC-DC step down converter to power a HU in a 24V Jeep. Out put of the converter is said to be isolated(apparently  useful for petrochemical vehicles) However my problem is that if i use the positve and negative outputs of the converter for power and ground respectively, do i have to isolate the HU cage from the vehicle chasis? or is it ok the HU to touch the chasis. Any ideas? cheers

If it is an isolated version, it must be just that - ISOLATED. If it is a common ground (earth) then the three chassis can all be electrically connected. Read you manual to determine which you have.
It all reminds me of something that Molière once said to Guy de Maupassant at a café in Vienna: "That's nice. You should write it down."
