Ok, I have read  a post on this topic before but, can't seem to find it so here we go.

Candence 4 channel Q400 amp. I was cranking on some tunes then all of a sudden I got a squeeling noise then nothing. Went back to the amps and found that the fuse was blown on the cadence amp. I turned everything off removed and replaced the fuse with a new 30amp. As I was trying to put the new fuse in (with out the amp on) I was getting some arcing at the fuse terminals. What the heck?

UPDATE: Went back out and did some testing. Ground resistance is at 1ohm. Power at the amp is 12.7 volts without the car on. ALso reading 12.5 volts at the fuse. Amp turns on without blowing the fuse. Now I get a terrible squealing noise through the whole system, subs included. So, There must be a problem some where else. Any suggestions on what to check first?

There is a component within the amplifier, or electrical system which is shorting out to ground.
In the field it is called a semi-short. The other is a dead short.
A dead short normally will blow the fuse immediately upon insertion of a fuse or upon power up. Because there is a path of electrical potential where it did not exist before.
A semi-short can be caused by a simple wiring harness that is cracked, or shaffing against a sharp area. Or it can be a actual component such as a resistor, or power amplfier which is no longer reducing / amplifyig the correct amount of current as it was intended for.
If you saw arching upon inserting the fuse, I would strongly suggest that you have the amplifier inspected prior to loading it.

hey guy's,

After several hours and many attempts to figure out the problem, I did. The sony (yes Sony :(-    ) crossover took a sh*t. It was shorting out through the rca's.

I had kind of the same problem with my old Kenwood Amp it kept blowing fuses, I wasted a lot of hours trying to fix it so finnaly I got mad and threw it at the cement. BAD IDEA, I ended up buying a new amp, oh well it was old any how.
