I succesfully installed a new CD player in a 1999 4runner. However now the backlighting for my dash(speedometer, tach etc) is out. Is this connected to the stereo somehow?? or perhaps fuse too low amp. help?

you probably used the dash light wire as a ground... it will meter to ground until you turn on the parking lights, at which point it'll zap the fuse....

you may want to check for this..... or a bare dimmer wire touching the chassis of the radio at the back

check your dimmer wire, disconnect it from the deck harness if you wired it up.  It could be a fuse, ,or the dimmer switch is set to off, or its blown $200....

Thanks ... I did hook up the dimmer switch so I am going back in to disconnect it and see if that helps. I checked the fuses and they look good, plus everything else on that fuse works. I hope it is not blown, just bought the truck. It is still under warranty with carmax, but I have a feeling that they would blame the stereo installation and make me pay if it is blown.

thanks again...

if its blowen, ,just remove the stereo and put the factory back in before you bring it in to get fixed.
