Hi everyone,
*
I can't believe the storm is in the 12volt server area area. That must be frightning. Be safe, seriously. Hope it works out okay. It's so windy in the UK right now, wonder if its related. All my garden furniture has escaped.

My question, and I'm sorry if it's been said a million times before. What benefits can I enjoy from an upgraded battery, battery AND alternator, or just alternator.
Will the quality improve, will it increase the maximum volume and which is the best route to power perfection.
Thanks
What's that flippie??

If you need more current capacity for your system, I recomend upgrading your alternator.  If you need more current capacity with the car off, go for a high-capacity battery as well.  Will it "make it louder?"  No, unless you are currently maxing out your alternator and causing the amp to shut down on low voltage.

More power on tap for your stereo means it can run more efficiently, , but if your running at 14v-14.4v  right now while driving with stereo on then it wont get better.  But if your voltage drops to like 12 v evertime the bass hits then you will want to invest in a new alt, , , ,the lower voltage will result in the amps putting out less power, and getting hotter.

As long as your lights arent dimming to much, and you are satisfied with how long you can run your system on accesory. Then you probably dont need a new alt or batt.  But then again, you're better safe then sorry.

One reason I ask is that a friend of mine smoked his speakers. I suspect because his system was on loud and (is this possible) the power dropped such that the amplifiers produced a dirty signal and the speakers got too hot. Or he just over fed them.
I have heard of Audiophiles having separate power supplies and isolated mains etc. to improve the sound quality. True for cars?
As for maximum volume, if the power simply isn't there to turn the volume past a certain point, some amps don't cut out, they produce distorted signal or don't get any louder. Uh, is that close to any truth or am I being a fish.
As for me, I'm drawing too much current (light dim) and I went for battery before altenator as my battery right now has had too many deep cycles to hold much charge, its old and wasted and needs immediate replacement. If I pull too much power while driving, will it fall back to battery and prevent dimming or do batterys only work correctly if the car is off. I don't see how it would work this way, but I thought I'd ask.
Alternator is on list, but starting the car is more of a priority than keeping the tunes playing.
