buddy of mine has an '02 Intrepid...he has been having problems with his windshield wiper switch....At least thats what he thought it was...only because thats what the dealership told him it was...he took it to the same dealership again to have them look at it a second time because what they did wasn't working...they then told him that his BCM was pretty much fried and that it was probably because of his stereo system...just wondering if any of you guys have heard of that happening before...or is this just another one of the dealership pinning the blame situations...all of his wiring is fine, i checked it all...only thing i can think is if somehow water got through hole in firewall and leaked on BCM...he said he was going to silicone around the power wire but never did...i guess what i'm really trying to ask you guys is if voltage drop could cause this...even though it was only enough to make the lights flicker a little...when i tested with a volt meter it never dropped below 12.4...thanks in advance guys

water on a BCM is never a good thing.... if it did get inside it certainly could be responsible for a number of glitches.... tough to say without someone actually taking it apart and looking for evidence of water intrusion....

but this is a prime example of "do the install right the first time" ....dont leave something undone thinking " aww, i'll silicone that gap around my cable some other time".....

Second the water issue, but  if this is not the case, the stereo frying the BCM, not bloody likely unless the install was seriously botched.

Top Secret, I can tell you but then my wife will kill me.

in cases like this is pretty much up to the dealer to prove that the aforementioned aftermarket device did indeed cause the damage they are trying to pin on it..... i'd definately call them on it..... of course, they could just be di**s who refuse to listen and refuse to respond.....

i took my car into a Mercedes dealership in Vancouver a few years back because the sunroof suddenly would not close while i was on holidays... they insisted that it was because i had hard wired my radar detector into the car ( years before ) and simply refused to look at it under warranty...when i got back to my own city they looked at it for me and determined it was a faulty connector and fixed it under warranty no problem.....

it will entirely depend on the dealer and what they are even willing to look at under warranty...... like Rob said, if the install was done with the proper wiring interfaces there is no way in the world it will backlash and conk out your BCM, but if you get one of those dealers that refuses to budge, go see another.....

his install looks like something i would want coming out of the shop i work at...except for the power wire with no silicone...so, if anything, i'm gonna have to say no fault to him, or water damage...one of those two...thanks for all your input guys

Don't trust the dealership..  It's bad to say but a lot of the mechanics there are normally just school trained and have no experience or love for what they do.  They just want a nice pay check.  In addition, management only care about their checks also.  Is the check engine light on?  If so take it to Autozone and have them to test the computers.  This does not prove what caused the problem but would help troubleshoot the issue since the dealer does not have a clue.

If this is the deal call Chrysler and discuss the issue with them directly.  If this does not work contact BBB on the company.  Even dealers don't like bad reps because they may sell cars but for everyone they don't sell they have to pay taxes and insurance on Monthly.
