Hi, I m Mike. I ve worked on cars in general most of my adult life. Im somewhat handicapped there fore I drive a 93 GMC Vandura 2500, full size van to haul my wheelchair and scooter.

I purchased a new pair of stock replacement size front dash speakers for my van. pioneers. Anyway in looking under the dash on either side I can't see how to do this without removing abunch of stuff. Iwas just wondering if there was an easier way, than removing all this ? Or if out there somewhere there was either someone who could tell me of a procedure or list of steps to follow, or maybe somewhere on the internet some stuff would be found on the steps involved. I just cant believe in a shop an installer would have to remove all this stuff. Theres got to be an easier way ? Any help pointing me in the right direction would be really appreciated. Thanks

If U are replacing the speakers.........U have to drop steering column & remove dash. Speakers are mounted from the top......It's not that hard, just a lot of screws. U can slide dash back to get to speakers.

If U are installing speakers and there is no stock speakers U can go underneath, but it still is easier from top

Thanks alot Mo, I was afraid of that being what I d have to do. I don t mind working, but in this case I just wasn't sure which way to try to start.

Some vehicles are easier to change speakers than others. Yours isn't one of them. You don't need to completely remove the dash, but almost. If you remove the radio, cover over the engine doghouse, any trim running up either side of the front winshield, all screws along either side of the dash underneath, all screws along the top defroster outlet, the trim around the instrument cluster, the instrument cluster and the heater controls. It sounds like alot but if you use a cordless drill it only takes a few minutes. You can then lift the dash upwards on the passenger side to replace that speaker. It should be screwed to the bottom side of the metal dash. The driver's side speaker can be replaced through the hole left after removing the instrument cluster. When installing the new speakers, start each screw by hand to determine that you are using the correct holes in the new speakers. They must be mounted underneath the metal like the original ones were. Make sure you use all 4 screws for each speaker and don't overtighten them. Dropping the steering column isn't required.

Steering column must be pulled down to be able to pull dash far enough back to get to speakers withOUT damage to dash.

Stock Speakers screw to TOP with 9/32 or 7mm screws

2 Nuts hold steering column...so 2 minutes more to do a better job

Ps if you have any recomends on a brand or model of a 1.5 din in dash combination unit, please let me know.

I've got an 88 chevy G20 I didn't have to pull the column, maybe they've changed. It was not a fun project, rough on hands lots of scrapes. Good luck. CC
