Hi, I know this may be pretty simple to some of you, but that's ok.

I'm replacing the 6x9's in the rear deck of my car, and I read somewhere that in order to get to the speakers, I had to pull the seats out and the entire rear deck off.

Does anyone know if that's true?

The factory grills over the rear speakers have clips that are exposed in the trunk, but even after unclipping them, there was something holding them down.  I didn't want to just start yanking on stuff in my car, so I've been trying to find some information, but no luck so far.

LMAO!!!!  HAAAAAAAA!!!!! Yeah that thing is the biggest PITA that i've ever done (I've got a '99 and no it's not simple).  Those cips are for what hold the speaker in place not the grill.  Ok take you're seat's bottom (what you a$$ is actually placed on) there are two rings under each side in the front.  Pull those CAREFULLY!!!!!  They are plastic and break easily.  But pull those forward and lift the front of the seat up.  Then pull it out of the car and set it aside.  Now, there are like four bolts at the bottom of the back of the seat (where your back goes).  Two are 10mm bolts I think.  Undo all of these.  Pull the belt buckles out.  Now pull the bottom of the seat back up and toward you.  The seat should slide up and out.  Set this aside.  Now undo the seatbelts from the little thing that they are wrapped around.  Now you get to pull the rear deck off!!!  Now it's simple.  Unbolt the speakers and drop in the new ones.  Now do all that $hit over again in reverse.  It's a biatch.

oh BTW hope it turns out good.  I took that speaker cloth off of my 6x9's to show them off.  It looks sweet if you ask me.  But I'm about to trash the deck and build a fg one.

yah thanks for the answer.  Actually I got a little speaker install amnual from crutchfield when I ordered some stuff from them (I needed plates to put 6-1/2" speakers back there, instead of 6x9's, and that's everything they said to do.

What a pain in the ass that was, good grief.  It took me forever to get the seat backs off, and even longer to get them back on (I was doing this bymself, so I coulnd't have anyone help me line it up from the trunk or whatever).

If it's not to much trouble, do you have any pics of your trunk?  I'm really hurting trying to think of new ideas.  They had a Grand Prix in crutchfield that has a sweet sub box, but I don't know anything about fiberglass, so that's gone.

Atleast you know that when you get in a wreck that your back seat isn't going anywhere very easily.  I did mine the first time by myself.  It is a PITA.  You put 6.5" back there?  I like the midbass that 6x9s put out.

Haven't got the fg going yet but I've got my idea from Car Audio & Electronics mag.  It's the one w/ Chip Foose from overhauling on the front (a recent month's issue).  There is a Lexus in there that's got it's back deck fg and it's freekin awsome.  I was going to put my 10" subs on the deck and then just drop some small 4" speakers to give it some highs but I'm building a custom box to let my sub fire through my cabin/trunk opening that's between my back seats.

Fiberglass isn't bad.  Try some smaller projects out (use the old speakers you just took out and build a box for them).  That's what fg is almost all about, practice and experience.  I haven't delt very much w/ it either but I'm about to bust into this new project.  Look around on this forum and do some searches for it.  Here's a good site that this guy does.  Most people find it kinda helpful if they have never worked with anything like that before.

Good luck and keep us posted on new happenings.

Thanks, I'll check that out and that's a good idea -- practicing with the 6x9's.

The reason I swapped them out is because I had a set of 6-1/2" Boston Rally's from my old car, and the door speakers in the Grand Prix are only 5-1/4".  I didn't want to see the Boston's, and I dind't want to have them collecting dust, and I certainly didn't want to go through the hassle of trying to make them fit in the doors, so that's why I put them in the back.

I got a set of MB Quarts for the front.. RSD or something like that (I can't remember the exact model) and an Alpine CD-player.

I have 3 10w6's and some old school Rockford's amps that I've had since 1997 and they've never failed me.  Just recently I managed to track down two amp links from ebay so my next step is to build up the floor in my trunk (because all 3 amps, plus links, plus two endcaps come out to about 35" across), but I just am not sure if I want a BOX for my sub box, especailly considering all of the contours in the trunk.

Anyways ... thanks for all the help
