I have seen a number of other posts that have been similar, however I could not post in that section, so I will first apologize if I have posted in the wrong area.

Now the problem:

I am trying to install a Rockford Punch Power 1000bd a1 to a Rockford HX2 DVC 15" running in 2ohm.
I will admit that I have never done a stereo install, however I have followed many instructions from many sources and have been up and down these forums for advice.
So to describe my wiring:
I have 7" of 4Ga wire leading from my + on my battery to a fuse box, housing a 100A fuse, then run appx 14' ft of 4Ga out from that down the side of my 99 Honda Civic LX, into the trunk and into the Amp's Battery Line in.  I then have appx 3' ft of Ground cable coming out of the amp and grounded under the trunk latch.  I used a voltmeter to check that the amp was recieving a solid 12.6v of power as well as testing for continuity on the ground, which I have so I know it's a solid ground connection.  Now with this all done I decided to check the Amp and make sure it powers on...so I hooked the REM line from the amp to the 12v+ switch wire which goes to my factory HU.  I turn the car on and both the power and Protect lights click on.  I have not yet hooked up the RCA's or the outputs to the sub.
At this point I thought it could be the amp it'sself, so I unhooked everything on the amp and took it down to the local car audio shop to have them test it, they hooked it up and everything worked beautifully.
Could their be a problem in my wiring from the battery to the amp?  Wouldn't the amp power register differnt from 12.6v if there was a problem? The Sub is listed to handle 1200w, the amp has an output of 1000w RMS in 2ohm...dont think that has anything to do with the problem im having but thought you might want to know..
I'm dying here.  Thanks in advance for any help offered!

you say you havent hooked up a sub or rca's yet,   try hooking up your signal and then turning everything on...if still in protect turn off just disconnect the sub and see if it turns on...

Try regrounding the amp. If the RF amps arent grounded properly they instantly go into protection mode. If you are grounding under the trunk latch that already made me suspect the ground before I even finished reading the post. Try to find a piece of double metal in the trunk somewhere, scrape away all the paint and drive a screw through that sucker to ground you amp. Make sure there is no gas tank there though :)

Thanks for the fast responses...I'll try these things and post my results.
however the amp being grounded...you think it's not grounded correctly when the continuity device we used showed that it was a solid ground?
Im finding out that grounding in a 99 civic is a huge pain..all the good frame bolts are spot welded....Whats the best way to scrape clean the painted surface? Steel wool seems to be what people are using...I think the best I have right now is an SOS pad ;)  don't think the soap will help. heh, might have to run to the store ;)

Okay,

I pulled all the wiring out of the car and ran my power line from the battery to the amp outside the car, as well as running the ground line back to the battery's negative terminal, unfortunately I still get the same problem...both lights, power and protect lights, come on.

I'm not yet going to say my amp is bad though, in a few minutes I'll run it down to the stereo shop and have them test it on their wiring.  It could be because I chose to go with a cheaper wiring kit then dish out $100+ for a nice one...ugh.

Benchmark at the shop came back with the same issue I had, protect light wont go off,
so...this would mean that something is wrong with my amp correct? is it repairable?
