If I made a port from the trunk of my car would I have better bass in the front? I just installed my system in my new crown vic and the bass inside the car is not as good as it was in my old cavalier. I think I can cut out the material where the back armrest folds down. Will this result in better bass in the car? How should I position my subs so the most bass possible comes in?

I did that in my Taurus and got a little more db in the cabin. I positioned the sub sideways in the trunk with the port hole almost directly above the cone, but the sub was there and wasn't going to be move anyway. I would say position the sub where you get the best, loudest sound while sitting in the car...then work on porting an opening, and leave the sub where it's at.

Thats a good lookin setup ya got there, nice job! But I dont want to do anything quite that fancy. I want to cut a hole in back of where the armrest fold up (in the middle of the back seat). The way the trunk is set up there is a shelf where the hole would come out, this is where my amps are. Then the trunk dips WAY down and I have my subs there. Im thinking of building a false floor so the subs will be up higher, and the soundwaves will bounce into the car better. The hole will just be to counteract the sound deadning and thick backseats which absorb a lot of the sound.

This is sort of what I want to do, except I wont be able to have the subs right in front of it like that.

Thisis what my trunk looks like, my amps are where that spare tire is and my subs are down where the tire iron and little speaker (lol) are. The hole would be in back of where the spare is.

There was a guy on here a couple months ago that did that, cut behind the armrest. He covered the opening with black fabric so it looked good from inside the car. If I were you I'd try to do it with the sub box down on the original floor facing the rear, and then experiment positioning from there. You have some room to work with, lol! If you put in a false floor that is hollow underneath, it seems to me that some of the sub frequencies might boom out of control with the increased cabin gain.

Am I losing any sound by having the subs box where it is right now? Im no expert but I sort of assumed that the sound waves would be bouncing around in the deep part of the trunk, and not bouncing directly into the front of the car. I could be way off though, bass tends to move in strange ways.

I've got my armrest folded down and the opening to the trunk folded down. The box is in front of it so nothing goes flying into my trunk but I can tell a MAJOR difference w/ the rest down. I've got the box against the back seat firing into the trunk. I'm going to try and turn it around to fire into the cabin.
