This deck has the hide away face to it and all of the display settings went blank on the front of this unit. When I eject the cd and the face plate flips down all the display is working fine. When I puch the cd in and the face goes down again it is blank?? I cleaned the conection area and it is still the same and reset the unit and now all is blank. Any ideas on what this may  be or what too look for.

There is an electrical ribbon between the unit itself and the faceplate, more than likely this has went out, there are several symptoms that will signal as this being the problem, as there are several contacts on this ribbon, Kenwood's MASK faceplates are notorious for this after about a year, depending on the use/amount of flipping.

If you would like to have it repaired, you could bring it to a Kenwood authorized dealer and they could send it off for you, it will probably cost about $100 - $120. The 919 is form two years ago, so i doubt that you still have warranty due to them having a one year warranty.

Did you try resetting the unit? I had a problem with a Kenwood flip face deck a month ago. The unit was about 1.5 years old. On the receiver part, with the flip face down, there should be a small inconspicuous button that you can reset with a paper clip. The unit I did this on works flawlessly now.
Atleast you can give that a shot.
Good luck,
