Radio mute 2005 Escape

I have installed a Motorola Bluetooth car kit in a 2005 Ford Escape. Ive located the radio mute pin on the back of the radio. I have this hooked up, and when placing a call the radio does mute. BUT, when the call has ended, the radio takes 3 to 4 minutes to come back on....Am I missing something here??

Have you determined whether it's the radio taking too long to come back on, or the cell phone kit taking too long to drop the mute signal?  At least that way you'll know which unit needs further diagnosis.

Yeah man, The car kit is holding the mute feature too long. Do I need to add a relay, and if I do, would you know if there is any special way I need to configure it? And by the way, Thanks for responding, cause Ive been on this for a while. Motorola or Ford neither one were ANY help AT ALL!!

I can't think of any way a relay could help.  If you've definitely determined that it's the car kit and not the radio, I wouldn't waste my time with Ford.  I would suggest swapping out the handsfree kit or contacting Motorola again.   I am assuming that you tested the radio by using the mute wire without the car kit & making sure that it comes back on right away when the mute wire is not used.  If that's the case, you are 100% right about the car kit being at fault.  And if that's true, I would concentrate on getting the car kit replaced.  Sorry I don't have a better solution.

I had a guy who installs car kits for Cingular Wireless tell me I needed to use a relay, but he said he couldn't explain further for "liability reasons" But, like you, I don't see how that would make a difference. The mute wire from the kit would still be the trigger wire, correct? And if it is holding mute for longer than it is supposed to, than a relay wouldn't help, unless there is some other way to use the relay, or even two.. Oh well, Thanks for the feedback.. If you hear of something new, let me know. I let the vehicle fly like it is!

Yes, the mute wire still determines whether the relay is in use or not.  I can't think of any way a relay (or more than one) could help in this situation.  If you do find a solution, please post your results.  Again, I'd try to get the unit swapped out.
