problem with soundstage in truck

i have a 96 dodge ram 1500 single cab and have found it impossible to even come close to the sound level with my sub in a trunk. i have a jl10w6v2 in a 1.25cubic ft sealed box. i have it where the center seat would be because the only good/safe spot to mount my 3 amps was on the back wall. i have heard the sub with the same amp in other cars and it pounds. obviously the accoustics of my truck suck. would a ported box be much better? and which direction should i face the sub? i have it faced forward so it reflects off the windshield to give a more filling effect.

I hate to say it, but you're probably not ever going to be able to hear deep notes quite like you can in a car given the same subwoofer. A full 50hz wave is about 22-24 feet long. This works in your car because you've got some space for the wave to develop by bouncing around "cabin gain." Most car subwoofers are designed knowing that "cabin gain" will be present. You simply don't have the same amount of cabin gain in you truck. Porting will help some, an EQ might help even more. Changing the direction of your sub will have an effect. what kind of truck do you have? also, is there anything i can do with the mids to get a little more volume out of them.? i have the tweeters mounted almost out of site under the dash and they still scream compared to the 6's. the high notes are about the only things that you can really hear in my truck. i guess what im asking is if there is an unconventional way to make of for the lack of gain with the box design, likewise for the kickpanel boxes?

Port the sub. Make sure that the box is able to be ported properly or have a new box comstructed. Add a good amount of Brown Bread to the door skins to help improve midbass response. Top Secret, I can tell you but then my wife will kill me.
