Sound cutting out

I have a friend who just installed a Sony CD player in his car. It works fine for a few minutes, then will cut out for a few minutes, then start working again. The player stays on and appears to be playing the whole time, but all the speakers cut out at once. What could the problem be?89 Prelude Si2.0

The problem is he got a Sony! Just kidding. If you see the player playing all the time and all the speakers cut out at the same time, it could be the amps cutting either due to overload. Could be other reasons too. I have to run, cant write more now sorry!

It could be several things. I am assuming he has all of the speakers wired to one amp. Check all of the connections, rca's,  grounds, fuses.'85 Toy

He's just running the speakers from the deck, not an external amp. It seems like a wire is loose, but what wire could make all the speakers cut out at once?89 Prelude Si2.0

if there isnt a loose wire, possibly the wires off one of the speakers in the doors came undone and touch intermittantly, then it is the deck. either way i would get the deck checked out because most likely it is damaged. the only other posibility is that the wiring harness is loose, you could try taping it on to the deck and together where it meets the factory harness. one more thing, make sure all your splices are right

Make sure your ohm load is correct. Some amps are not 1 ohm stable and cut out when you get below 2 ohms. Make sure you have it all set up right with the impedences. That causes shorts a lot of the times and causes amps to clip."I don't play games.
