Hey guys, first poster here. My friend has a 99 VW Jetta and we are hooking his sub into the stock head unit. What wire do I splice to give power to the amp?

itsjustoverkill - by 'give power to the amp' do you mean input from the head unit? If so, what you need to do is splice the wires going to the rear speakers (if the amp's going into the trunk) and hook these into the speaker level inputs on the amp.

if not, youll need to run a power cable from the amp to your battery.

I know to get the signal to the amp you splice from the rears, but as for the remote turn-on, do you have to run the wire from the battery or is there a way to splice it off the deck?

Yes you can splice it from that. The remote wire is hooked up to the deck, and will probably be blue. You can't bring the remote turn-on right from the battery because it will always be putting out power, whether the ignition is on or not.

Vw's will usually use a white wire for factory amp systems for amp turn on, if there is no amp go ahead and use the switched power which is usually BROWN / red, but this wire will go directly to the ignition switch with no fuse so be sure to put a 5A fuse in line, or else this circuit could get damaged
