I'm installing an FM modulator for a SkyFi (not SkyFi2) system in a 2005 Tacoma to use until I can afford a PIE Aux converter. Does anyone have any suggestions on where to tap the power leads into? There was a post below about powering a SkyFi2 in a Tahoe - do the same rules apply? I was thinking of running the power to a cigarrette lighter or the stereo's 12V power source (or the ignition harness - I'm new to this game, so I'd have to figure out what that is first 05 Tacoma FM modulator power -- posted image.). Any suggestions/help?

There should be a UL sticker on there telling you how much current (amps or VA) the modulator draws.  If it's not too much you could probably tap into one of the wires you mentioned without risking melting a wire or popping a fuse.  It's recommended that you run a wire of a sufficient thickness from the battery with a fuse within 18in of the battery to protect the wire routing all the power cables away from signal cables.

If it sais that it draws less than 5 amps or 60VA or has a fuse on there that is less than that then I think it would be a good idea to tap into the cigarett lighter if the wires on the modulator and cigarett lighter look to be the same thickness.

Pull the radio (ask if you are unsure). Use a DMM to probe the factory harness. For FM modulator you will need accessory and ground. Constant should be blue / YELLOW (IIRC?), so with key in, only one other wire will read 12v+, but will read 0 when key is switched off. That will be ACC (double check that it doesn't  ground out with lights on). Ground is brown or black (again, IIRC?). Test for ground with DMM if necessary (Probe constant or ACC and check that your suspect wire is in fact a ground [Your DMM will read 12 volts].) That is it. Run your wires/antennas, and you should be good to go.
