2002 explorer sound problem

I added a amp an sub woofer to my stock radio.

Used the two rear speaker leads to make inputs to my amp........hardwired amp and added remote auxillary switch for power

Did not touch the Head unit or any of its wires, brought the system up and was powerful and the volume was really sensitive.

Everything seem to work, except for fine tuning and adjusting.  after it played for about an hour or two, i decided to start the truck to keep from totally discharging the battery.

The radio now does not produce any sound...its come on can change functions and you can see the volume level as you twist the knob but no sound from any speaket......... what happen,

checked fuses for the radio..they look ok but what else could have occurred........now i just have silence

is there a factory amp fuse or something to check......forget the the amp and subwoofer...i just want the sound back.

Check all of the fuses, even under the hood, not just ones that are for the cd player. There is a factory amp that is usually hidden behind the passenger rear quarter panel, close to the rear seat. This amp powers the entire system.

Thanks Forbidden.  Are there any known issues that the amp cuold go out........ i was wondering if a polarity mismatch  could cause this....but that would only affect the new speakers...at least i think and would cause distrotion not a blow.

I also see post were people are bypassing the amp...could i just do that for the rear speakers if that is the case.

A polarity mismatch would not cause this. A speaker wire that is going to ground may cause the factory amp to shut down however. check the fuses first, then disconnect the wires at the point you attached them. If the system comes alive again then you have a problem with the connection or from the connection to the amp or in the amp itself.

Bypassing the factory amp is done when you are upgrading the cd player, not when you are adding a sub and amp to the factory system.

You are right on the money!..I disconnected the inpute to the amp and the Radio came alive....so the factory amp is shutting down, but why does this continue to play when i reconnect them?  Well, if the speaker wire is going to ground...what exactly does that mean and how can i correct that.......sorry so many questions but i like to do this properly.

You do infact need a LOC, some good ones are made by PAC and Scosche or a super high end one that would give you way more flexibility is the Audio Control LC6 + bass remote.

You guys rock!!!!   i went to over Best Buy on my lunch hour and plugged in in in about 5 minutes.......its all good.   Man things sure have changed.....guess that why the audio guys get paid the bucks...........thanks again...!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
