Starting Audio Installation

Hey all.  I am proud to say that this is my first post.  Anyways to the topic on hand.  I am interested in becoming a efficient car stereo installer.  I would like to know if there is a stater kit that I can by to help me out.  If the kit is not sold at whole, what parts are required to begin this hobby?  I have connected a few wires that have split in my car before but have used electric tape to do so.  Only to find out that the tape falls off and the wires disconnect again.  What is the propper way to connect these wires that are safe and secure?

I suggest you bookmark this site and read as much of it as you can.  Use the search engine.

As far as a basic toolkit, start with the following: A good volt/ohm meter, like a Fluke model 70.  A few different sets of lead wires for the meter including pin and alligator clamp leads.  A good wire stripper.  A good set of wire crimpers.  A soldering iron with stand.  A good set of screwdrivers.  A good set of metric and standard socket wrenches ranging from around 8mm to 20mm, 3/8" to 3/4".  A good set of open end wrenches.  A heat gun.  A pair of "helping hands" clamps.  A variety of wire gages of crimp-on connectors, including butt splice and fork terminals.  A variety of sizes of shrink tubing.  A variety of sizes of zip ties.
