89 cavalier bad stereo install

after i installed a 2000 chevy stereo into an 89 cavilier my dash and tail lights went out. i have checked all the fuses under the dash and they are all good. if anyone has an explaination i would be grateful

Disconnect what you think is the ground wire from the new cd player. You may have inadvertantly grounded the lighting circuit. Check all of the fuses again.

problem solved ...... it appears the previous owner used the radio ground for another accessory because he wasn't using the stereo.... therefore i used the dimmer wire to ground it and blew the fuse ...... the fuse didn't seem to be blown but i replaced it and ran a ground and now it works fine......thanx for ur help
