I was searching the internet and ran accross Hifonics Brutus amps, model BX2200D (2200 watt x 1) for $379.99. Says they are new amps. Has anybody heard these amps? Has Hifonics lowered their value this much, or is this a great deal? No, it's not on ebay. I have seen some info on this forum lately about their amps and all was positive feedback. I am not familiar with them. Any feedback will be helpful.

I Just got the Brutus BX1500D amp pushing 2 12's and I havent had any troubles with it,  Only thing is Hifonics rates their wattage at 14.4 volts, the 2200 max at 1 ohm may only put out 1800 watts instead.. so just make sure you cars electrical system is in top condition

otherwise there good amps from what I can tell

So the 2200 watt amp will actually put out only around 1400 watts or so? What about the price for it? Is that about the right price? If its only a 1400 watt amp I guess its only worth that price anyway.

You should have about 14 volts with the engine running, so it's not a terrible crime to rate an amp with that voltage.
Build the box so that it performs well in the worst case scenario and, in return, it will reward you at all times.

Correct you should, but not all cars are in good condition even if their just off the showroom floor, I know my 2004 civic at 1000 rpm still only puts out 13.2 volts and 80 amps, and thats is because of the computers setting from honda

Otherwise I still think its a great amp company , even after a 3 hour road trip it didnt get hot or even cut out once

So, is this a good price? Or should I look elsewhere? I am looking for an amp (mono amp) that has that kind of power. The Orion and Memphis amps I have looked at with this type of power are much more expensive.

How much power are you looking for and at what impedance?  If you're goin to be running your setup at 1 ohm, I'd say it would be a good buy  for the price.  But if you're you're looking at a two ohm setup I'd go with the MTX 1501d, 1500W RMS at 2 ohms, $359 at sounddomain.com.

I have never owned a HiFonics amp, but I have heard pretty much all positive feedback on them, and for the price they cant be beaten. If you are looking for a good deal on Orion amps, check out ikesound.com, they have some reconditioned ones for good prices. Memphis only sells through authorized dealerships, not online. Therefore you are more or less foreced to pay whatever the dealer is charging.
