Ok i was wondering what SPL levels should i be able cabable reaching with my sub. It is a JL AUDIO 12W3V2 D2 and ill be feeding it 550WRMS *1 @ 4ohms. It is in a 2.0ft^3 ported box tunded to 33HZ. I downloaded winisd i tried to put in new paraments eg the Qes , Qts but it kept giving me errors and wouldnt let me save the profile. Anyways i just used teh 12W3 model and put my specs in it said that 12W3 with 550WRMS should reach 120dB. So im guessing for my sub, since its only a bit better, that my sub is a v2 i should be hitting about the same. I was wondering with cabin gain what should i be able to reach in dB ? i Know when i had 300WRMS goign to it it would go very loud. Giving you a headache after a while.

I'd say you're gettin somewhere in the range of 135dB.

let the winisd auto calculate some of the parameters or click the little box at the bottom to 'auto calculate' then you can save your specs.  i normally leave the qes entry blank and fill in the rest.  it will usually generate a number for qes close to what the manf. shows.  a trick ive found on my applications is that in car spl, verified with a term lab meter, is about 12-17 dbs MORE than winisd calculates.  make sure to adjust your input wattage on the 'signal' tab.

There's a rough estimator on http://www.bcae1.com/ in the speakers page - down the page a bit.
It takes a doubling of power to raise max spl 3db. 3db is small. Therefore, with 550w, you'll gain less than 3db from the 300w amp you had before. I hope you didn't spend much money on that upgrade.

i know about the doubling rule. but i thought it woudl be nice because then if dont notice a huge differnce ill put my 500.2 to my components and it will give me compoennts 125WRMS*2 @ 4ohms Stereo. Currently my components are getting 80WRMS each but i think they will sound better with this amp anyways. Also i can sell this amp in local newspaper to get my money back if i dont like it.

Yeah, those types of marginal power increases will make next to no audible difference in sound. If it was also an upgrade in quality, however, you stand to gain more benefit than just a couple db of potential spl.

hey i know its not related to topic but i just routed 2guage to the trunk. i dont exactly have a crimping tool but i stipped the wire without missing anythign using a xacto nife anyways. i got a 4guage spade terminal because store didnt have 2guage. anywys it fits nicely in the terminal i used vice grips to get it very tight. I wanan know if its ok to use solder to solder it because its a tiny bit loose i cant get it any tigheter with the vice grips. Is this ok to do?
